Clean, local energy with room for nature to thrive
Hornbeam Solar is a proposed solar farm in Essex. We want to hear what you think before we submit a planning application.
Why we are here
Taiyo Power & Storage is proposing a solar farm on farmland north of Wickford, Chelmsford. Our project is named after the hornbeam trees which grow in the local area.
The scheme could generate around 1,104 GWh of renewable electricity, enough to power approximately 8,485 homes each year. The land around the panels would be sown as wildflower meadow, with new hedgerows and trees planted across the site.
This website explains the proposal, the studies carried out so far, and how you can take part in the consultation. It will be updated as the project moves forward.
About the scheme →Good for energy, good for nature
Clean energy
Low carbon electricity generated locally and fed into the local grid.
Nature first
New hedgerows, trees and meadow planting for a measurable gain in biodiversity.
Community
An open consultation, so local views help shape the final design.
